My First Kimbap
Me, hubby and my brother had our dinner at McD last Friday (yea...not very healthy right) and the chat then went to "What will I prepare for caroling dinner this year?"
Hubby suggestion --> cater (since it's my birthday and don't want me to get tired)
but me --> trying to reduce some cost here .. will cook. I don't mind too since we're not going to be around and have open house during Christmas (will be in KL).
brother --> how about doing something different like... sushi.. (hmm... good idea).

Another revealing to a crazy side of me; I tend to serve people/ guest at my house with my very first attempt of any recipes... scary huh? But the 'goddes of kitchen' was always been extremely nice with me so I usually ended up fixing some quite good food (please excuse me for my bragging moment here...*wink-wink*). However, I decided to try this one first (like test drive lah), just so I can know how long will it take for me to prepare and how long will it stays fresh (I have to prepare a quite a big number nih...)
drum roll....
EZPZ Chamchi Kimbap

Found a recipe at My Korean Kitchen but since I havent got the time to do some shopping (hubby's quite busy), I decided to change the recipe a bit (due to my not-so-sufficient pantry) and just toss in what ever I have around.
Kimbap is Sushi Rolls. Though brother asked me to prepare Sushi, I don't think I have the skill yet to make some now and Kimbap sounded a lot easier.

Ingredients for Seasoning Mix
1 tbsp Sesame Oil
1 tbsp Vinegar (I used Rice Vinegar)
1 tsp Sugar (I used soft brown sugar)
1/2 tsp salt
1 tbsp Sesame Oil
1 tbsp Vinegar (I used Rice Vinegar)
1 tsp Sugar (I used soft brown sugar)
1/2 tsp salt
Whisk it all together and you have it. I actually saw this mix in a Japan Cooking Show. This seasoning is actually can be used in many different ways and Hubby especially love it served with grilled/ deep-fried aubergine (will share it later kio!!)
If you wonder...it's that Tuna in a can??? Yes peeps.. it is. And I stir-fried the rice with onions and black sesame seeds before added in the seasoning mix (mentioned above). The eggs fried 80% cooked in a non-stick pan with NO OIL. And you can see that I have one pretty green-bamboo-roll-mat there. *smile*
So, mari kita menyusun...
Spread the rice thinly and leave some empty space around.
Rolled with my green-bamboo-roll-mat

The kimbap did taste great. Was thinking of adding shredded carrot for the caroling dinner to give more colours. What do you think????
And while I was busy doing my Kimbap, son managed to enjoy himself with some Nori.. nyummy... oh...
Happy eating...
